WELLBRIETY at Healing Rock Recovery
Culturally Rooted Healing for Long-Term Recovery
How does Healing Rock’s Wellbriety Program work?
Healing Rock Recovery offers Wellbriety as part of our integrated approach to substance use and mental health treatment. Wellbriety is a culturally based, holistic healing movement rooted in Native American teachings. It blends traditional Indigenous practices with modern, evidence-based recovery methods to support spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical wellness.
The term “Wellbriety” combines wellness and sobriety, emphasizing not just abstinence from substances, but a balanced, purposeful life grounded in Indigenous values. Central to this approach is the Medicine Wheel, which represents the four directions of healing—mind, body, spirit, and emotions—and the interconnectedness of all living things.
Wellbriety is especially meaningful for Native American and Alaska Native individuals seeking culturally relevant care that honors their heritage and traditions. However, the program is open to anyone who resonates with its principles of respect, humility, truth, and interconnected healing.
At Healing Rock, we incorporate Wellbriety into our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and Virtual Treatment services. Clients experience healing through talking circles, ceremony, storytelling, and traditional teachings, alongside therapies such as CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care.
This culturally responsive approach empowers individuals to heal from addiction, address intergenerational trauma, and rebuild a sober life rooted in identity, community, and spiritual connection.
What to expect in a Wellbriety program?
Healing Rock’s Wellbriety Program: Indigenous Wisdom for Lasting Recovery
Healing Rock Recovery’s Wellbriety program offers a culturally rooted approach to healing by combining Native American teachings with evidence-based mental health and addiction treatment. Guided by the principles of the Wellbriety Movement, our program helps individuals reconnect with their identity, heal historical and intergenerational trauma, and achieve balanced, sustainable recovery.
What You’ll Experience in Our Wellbriety Program:
Medicine Wheel Teachings: Learn how the four directions—mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical—offer a framework for healing, growth, and self-discovery.
12-Step Recovery with Cultural Relevance: Follow the Wellbriety 12 Steps, which emphasize spiritual connection, personal accountability, and healing from ancestral trauma in a culturally meaningful way.
Talking Circles and Community Support: Join peer-led circles where storytelling, deep listening, and shared healing build community and connection.
Historical and Intergenerational Trauma Work: Address the long-term impact of colonization, cultural disconnection, family loss, and grief in a safe and supportive setting.
Spiritual and Holistic Healing Practices: Participate in traditional Indigenous healing such as smudging ceremonies, drumming, sweat lodge referrals, and nature-based rituals that honor sacred traditions and promote spiritual clarity.
Warrior Down Support: Engage in a relapse prevention and recovery re-entry model designed for those returning to community after relapse or incarceration, rooted in accountability and cultural support.
Integrated Clinical Therapies: Benefit from trauma-informed, evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness therapy, all respectfully blended with Indigenous teachings.
Healing Rock’s Wellbriety program is open to all individuals who resonate with its teachings. It is especially supportive for Native American, First Nations and Alaska Native individuals seeking culturally competent care that honors their history, traditions, and spiritual beliefs.
By embracing Indigenous knowledge alongside clinical excellence, our Wellbriety program creates a sacred space for personal growth, emotional resilience, and lasting freedom from addiction.

More Than a Model—A Movement for Healing
Healing Rock’s Wellbriety services are deeply informed by the teachings of White Bison, Inc., and we incorporate core Wellbriety programs including:
The Wellbriety 12 Steps: A culturally adapted version of the 12 Steps that centers on healing the four directions—mind, body, spirit, and emotions—while addressing historical trauma and fostering spiritual connection.
Warrior Down: A powerful re-entry and relapse prevention program that supports individuals returning from treatment, incarceration, or relapse. Warrior Down emphasizes accountability, cultural support, and community responsibility.
Firestarter Circles: Group-based circles where clients engage in the foundational teachings of the Wellbriety Movement—focusing on personal inventory, forgiveness, healing family systems, and stepping into one’s purpose.
Talking Circles: Sacred spaces for storytelling, deep listening, and mutual support. Talking Circles are vital for re-establishing community, rebuilding trust, and reducing shame.
We combine these Indigenous frameworks with modern, evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma–informed care, offering a whole-person approach that addresses both clinical and cultural needs.
